The Washington Pastime Literary Prize invites young authors

The Washington Pastime is an electronic and print publication based in Washington, DC, and is committed to publishing the best in literary and genre fiction. The Washington Pastime Literary Prize awards outstanding writing in literary and genre fiction. Winnings include cash prizes and publication in The Washington Pastime, and in The Washington Pastime Collections Anthology.  They offer a separate entry level and prize category, Promising Young Author (PYA) for submissions from young adults, under 18 years old. Both levels will be judged by Editor-in-Chief Paul Karaffa.

Open to:  All writers, submissions must not be previously published

Genre:  Literary and genre fiction

Word length:  15,000 words or less

Prizes:  Washingtonian Prize for Fiction – $500; Promising Young Author (PYA) Prize for Fiction – $250

Entry fee:  $10;  PYA -$5

Deadline:  December 31, 2011
