Scare The Dickens Out of Us Contest

The Scare The Dickens Out of Us Short Story Contest is in conjunction with the annual “A Dickens Christmas In Lockhart” which is held on the first weekend in December (Friday night, Saturday) in Lockhart, Texas. They want ghost stories. Any genre, any tone, any subject, whatever type of ghost story you can come up with. All publication rights remain with the author. The contest is a Friends of the Dr. Eugene Clark Library fundraiser and is privately funded. All entry fees go to the Friends and are used for library projects. The contest is open to submissions as of July 1, 2012.

Open to:  All writers published and unpublished. Adult category – 19 and older; Junior category – 12-18 year olds

Genre:  Short ghost story

Word length:  5,000 words or less

Prizes:  1st Prize – $1,000; 2nd Prize – $500; 3rd prize – $250; Junior Prize – $250

Entry fee:  Adult – $20; Junior – $5

Deadline:  October 1, 2012
