Albert Whitman still reads unsolicited manuscripts

Best known for the classic series The Boxcar Children® Mysteries, its highly praised picture books, novels, and nonfiction titles succeed in reaching out to children of all backgrounds and experiences. Albert Whitman’s special interest and issue titles address subjects such as disease, social issues, and disabilities. All Albert Whitman books treat their readers in a caring and respectful manner, helping them to grow intellectually and emotionally.

Albert Whitman & Company publishes approximately forty books per year for the trade, library, and school library market. They have an open submissions policy. They read unsolicited work, which means that it is not necessary for writers to submit through a literary agent.

  • Picture book manuscripts for ages 2-8
  • Novels and chapter books for ages 8-12
  • Young adult novels
  • Nonfiction for ages 3-12 and YA
  • Art samples showing pictures of children
