Dark Regions will market new imprints with crowdfunding

Posted on April 7, 2014

Dark-Regions-Press-LogoDark Regions is open to submissions in horror, fantasy, and science fiction genres. Any cross genres between the three will also be considered. Horror should be scary and disturbing. Sci-fi and fantasy should be creative and original, not derivative of other popular characters or stories.

According to the editors, “Real characters and creative vision are sought. If there’s at least one character (preferably the protagonist) that we can grow attached to and the journey you take us on is a creative one, you will increase your publication chances significantly!”

Fiction must be original, meaning it has never been published anywhere, including other publishers, self-publishing, websites, and/or blogs. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but no multiple submissions.

In a trendy new spin in book marketing, each book that is accepted for publication in Dark Regions Horror, Dark Regions Fantasy, and Dark Regions Sci-Fi will have a crowdfunding campaign associated with it via Kickstarter. The campaigns will be created as a means for readers to preorder the book and to fully fund each project. Authors, artists, editors, and everyone else involved in each book project will be asked to contribute to the campaign with videos, promotional efforts, etc.

Length:  18,000 – 80,000 words

Author will receive a base payment (or advance) in the amount of $500 and starting rates of 35% NET royalties (profit sharing) for trade paperback editions and 45% NET royalties (profit sharing) for ebook editions which can increase to 40% and 50%, respectively, based on sales thresholds being reached.

Authors will also receive 10% of the total funds raised by the crowdfunding campaign associated with their book (base payment included). If the crowdfunding campaign succeeds, authors will be paid with a flat payment (not advance) and royalties will begin on book sale #1. If the crowdfunding campaign fails, authors will be paid a flat advance of $500 ($250 pre-pub $250 post-pub) and royalties will start after NET royalties earned surpass $500.
