Belgrave House is acquiring previously published fiction

belgrave-house-logoBelgrave House is currently acquiring previously (paper) published fiction to offer as ebooks.

They are especially interested in publishing women’s fiction, mysteries, contemporary and historical romance. Their sister site, Regency Reads, is acquiring Regency and Georgian romance. Most ebooks sell for $5.

They offer ebooks in three formats: epub (industry standard), PRC (Mobipocket, Kindle), and PDF. Ebooks are not encrypted. With all formats they offer a cover graphic as part of the design of the ebook.

Their intention is to offer a casual publishing partnership with authors (not agents) interested in making their backlists available as ebooks. They prefer a “gentleman’s agreement” with authors on the following items:

  • Only accept books for which authors own the reverted rights.
  • Authors are expected to provide a clean Word (or similar) file of the text, but the publisher is willing to scan in the print book as long as the author agrees to proofread the resulting file.
  • Author files will be converted to all ebook formats.
  • Publisher offers shared revenues at 60% (author) and 40% (publisher). On ebook sales at the Belgrave House site authors receive the full 60%. Ebook sales at other sites (Amazon Kindle, Apple iBookstore,, Content Reserve/Overdrive, Barnes and Noble, Google, etc.) are discounted 30-50% plus specials, but reach a wider audience. Ebooks generally sell for $3.99.
  • Authors will receive an accounting on their ebook sales monthly, when $50 in sales are achieved.
  • Authors are encouraged to direct traffic to the Belgrave House to sell their books.
  • Authors may withdraw their ebooks at any time, however:
  • If authors wish to withdraw their ebooks within the first six months, they will reimburse Belgrave House $100 for the cost of formatting their ebooks and revising the website to offer and then remove them.
