Hallmark Publishing seeks romances with holiday theme

Posted on December 5, 2017

Hallmark Publishing is a division of Crown Media Family Networks, which includes Hallmark Cards, Inc. and Hallmark Channel. They publish wholesome or “sweet” romance novels and cozy mystery novels that celebrate friendship, family, and/or community ties. All stories must have happy endings. Hallmark Publishing isn’t involved in acquiring the movie or TV rights of books published by other publishers. They never read scripts, so don’t send them.

For romance, they want light contemporary stories set in the United States. They especially want Christmas, small town, and seasonal themes (winter, Valentine’s Day, spring, June brides, beach reads, fall). They are open to series ideas. They will consider historical romance set in North America or the U.K. Religious elements in a story are fine but avoid religious themes. They are not interested in paranormal romance, but they are open to time travel or magical realism.

For mystery, they want contemporary stories set in the United States, especially open to ideas for series.

They are not looking for young adult, other fiction genres, or nonfiction at this time.

Hallmark Publishing accepts self-published work, and previously published work where the rights have reverted to the author, as long as the story meets their guidelines in its original published form.

Word length:  65,000 to 85,000 words
