Small presses now accepting children’s manuscripts

Tell-Tale Publishing is a small press founded in 2009. They publish in ebook and print on demand.

Their six imprints include:

  • Dahlia — romance, and various romance sub-genres
  • Stargazer — fantasy, steampunk
  • Nightshade — horror
  • Casablanca — mystery
  • Thistle — middle school, YA, new adult
  • Deja Vu — reprints for all genres

All of the genres have separate, detailed submission guidelines that spell out their expectations in terms of genre and subgenre. After a contract is signed, the author is required to edit the manuscript according to The Chicago Manual of Style.

Founded in 2015 by poets Alexis Orgera and Chad Reynolds, Penny Candy Books focuses on publishing children’s picture books.

Their mission statement:

“Penny Candy’s mission is to publish children’s literature that reflects the diverse realities of the world we live in, both at home and abroad. This means seeking out books by and about people and subjects that speak to a broad range of human experience.”
